Shakti Kroopkin: Shapespace
Shakti Kroopkin blends abstract space with the energy of street art to create visionary worlds of limitless possibility. Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Shakti merges influences of city life, music, art and culture with the vastness of Northern New Mexico’s high desert. Her intuitive work, free from the constraints of logic, gravity, and reality, allows the polarities of creation and destruction, expansion and contraction, discord and coalescence, to find balance between the real and the imagined. A crescendo of color and movement invite the viewer to explore emotion, memory, and the free association of the creative process. Raw strokes and primitive symbolism combine in a new space of human experience and imagination.
Shakti’s work in abstraction celebrates the innate need for self expression. Her process begins with the application of Sumi ink and is completed with oil paints and graphite. Bold, vulnerable gestures create a freedom of line and form. The material strategies elucidate visual markers from the subconscious.
Shakti graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and has spent the past 12 years in Santa Fe, NM. She is an artist, teacher, and mother, whose art has shown at over 50 galleries nationwide and is collected internationally. Her work includes paintings, sculpture, live painting, art clothing, and commissions. She has taught numerous, highly regarded abstract painting workshops.
Shakti finds art to be transformational for both painter and viewer. Imagination shifts space and thought, changes limited perspectives into wonderment, and wakes our connection to life force energy.
